"Modern Marketing" featured in San Antonio newspaper

Just had to share.  I was so excited when MY sister was selected by the Express News here in San Antonio to share about her success with ACTIVE RAIN, FACEBOOK and the like.

Hope you enjoy and most importantly that you join in on the discussions, tid bits and learning that we can all do from sharing!

Kristin, I just think you are super cool!

I was lucky enough to be interviewed by the San Antonio Express News Newspaper a couple of weeks ago for a story they were doing on "Modern Marketing".  The article ran on the front page of the San Antonio Express News Newspaper's Real Estate section on Sunday.

Here's a few bits & pieces of the article:

The article talks about how it's not ok anymore just to put a sign in the yard or make a few flyers, your online presence is just as important since most folks start their search there.

My online presence that started with ActiveRain, which of course led me to brag about my outside blog on ActiveRain & the success it has brought me above & beyond what I ever expected when I first started.  I also talked about being on twitter & facebook along with all that I have learned along the way!

I must say I was excited to open the paper & see my smiley mug!

Life's Lessons from my Mom = Good Business Traits

Today is my Mom's birthday....she's really special.

I know almost everyone could say that about their Mom also, but just for today let me celebrate her.

You see there are many things that my Mom taught me that I still use in my life and business today.

My Mother was voted "most naive" in high school so, it's really hard to image that years later she would metamorphosis into this great, savvy, sharp business woman.   My Mom owned and ran a furniture store for over 30 years.  She was very successful at it, made an awesome living, AND was still able to be "Mom" for my sisters and I.  It amazes me how she was able to do all of these things and do them right.  Still does.

I suspect that any young girl voted "most naive" in high school would usually continue to live in that "world".  Not my Mom.  It was actually my Dad that encouraged my Mom to seek a job "outside" of the house (if something were to ever happen to him he didn't want her to have to remarry some smuck as my Father used to say to take care of us kids...hey, this was the 60's)   So, what did she find was her calling?  Business and People.  She is so successful at both.  Still to this day, old friends, new friends and maybe a few "not so" friends will still call my Mom for advice, someone to listen to and someone to hold their hand.  In high school I remember my girlfriends coming to my Mom for advice instead of their parents.  They found her to be understanding, empathetic and have a solid solution for them.

It's no wonder that the skills that encompass my Mom still work today.

These are just a few of her lessons to my sisters and I:

Treat others as you would like to be treated...of course we all know the golden rule, right?

Grief is joy misunderstood (okay...so, I was like 30 before I figured this one out!)

Be patient (still learning this one)

God helps those that help themselves

Remember your rare and special and no one else is just like you.  Use your God given talents.

Listen more than you talk

Show others that you care

Be loyal and practice being a friend everyday

If it's in your power to help someone else less fortunate...do it!

Learn to stand on your own two feet...don't expect a free ride.

Always wear clean underwear in case your in an accident (oh, sorry...that still applies today)

She taught me how to understand, listen and read people.  She taught me to be honest, loyal and forthright.  She taught me to have empathy without it being a detriment to myself.

All of the skills needed to work and serve people in any type of capacity.  So, if I turn all of my Mom's lessons into business, the bottom line is that she was the ultimate NET WORKER and people person.

A strong trait to have in this market...

And I don't forget it...because my Mother told me so!

To my Mother who is beautiful inside and out...

Loving you always Mom!  Happy Birthday!
