Recession 101: What if nobody participated?
Driving along a cut away street on the North East side of San Antonio I curiously came across these billboards.
I couldn't believe my eyes and stopped the car and photographed each and every one. I'm sure I was a spectacle to the cars driving by. I hope the billboards were also a spectacle.
I was so pleased that someone was out there putting positive words out to the masses.
It was then that I read the story of how these billboards came to be. An anonymous donor wanted to remind Americans to collectively "take a deep breath". Have you ever heard of such a thing? Not me. Do I like it and appreciate it? You bet.
The entire campaign is geared to raising Americans spirits and lift them up according to the website: www.recession101.org or you can catch them on twitter: twitter.com/recession101
I tell you that morning there was nothing better than seeing these uplifting words "up in the sky".
To anonymous donor, I thank you. I'm sure many Americans would also give a "collective" sigh of relief too.
Either we participate or we don't.

Thanks Sheila I needed that shot in the back of my head it was an eye opener for sure.
Thanks for taking the time to take these photos. Indeed, much of life's outcomes can be determined by attitude, not circumstance.
I like the idea of no one participating. Unfortunately with so many unemployed it is hard not to.
I love the inspirational signs. Glad someone spent the money to help motivate people.
Hi Shelia-What great and positive billboards that so many really need to pay attention to. Thank you for taking pics of these positive billboards. :-)
Sheila it reminds of a blog I put out earlier in the week, The American Way, which not many responded to. It was just a reminder of how we need to stay the ourse, straight and narrow; back to taking baby steps to get to where we want to be. Reach out and help some of the folks that have lost their way. The signs are great.
Hi Shelia,
I would like to add my thanks for taking these photos. Sometimes we all need some inspiration.
Hi Sheila, great way to broadcast the need to look for opportunity!
I Net Realty Group-I needed that shot in the back of my head Ouch!
Liz-Attitude ! You are correct!
Kim-yes, it would be perfect if everyone just ignored it, huh?
Pat-I'm just so lucky nobody ran me off the road!
Carl-I need to get over there and read that!
Sharon-ditto!
Wanda-yes, such a good reminder!
Hi Sheila, I saw these billboards, too, and they gave me a little psychological lift. :o)
I love the signs also Sheila. A few months back I heard a quote "Choose not to participate in the recession" and I thought "YEAH!" Actually, I even wrote it down as a post idea, but never got around to writing it. I wouldnt have had cool signs like you. :-)
Sheila, I hope these start to pop up all over the country! I'd love it if they threw a recession and nobody came!
Sheila,
These are some good reminders and I am sure that there will be more to follow.
LOVE those billboards! Our market was so propped up by easy credit and now that it (corporate, auto, personal, mortgage) ain't coming back any time in the near future we will see price adjustments (downward) because demand is down. There is some fantastic opportunity to go on vacations, buy cars, homes, etc because of those downward price adjustments. Silver lining in every cloud.
Wow. I love it. I will have to check out the website!
I don't know what made me smile more tonite ~ this post or that I found you on Twitter (wink)
It's a TIE! :)
Love it too, glad you shared the reality those who live with their own perception see and know to be true!!!
Shelia
I believe this is a great idea and hope we can get some in our area too. We need more positive actions like these right now.
Sheila - I drove by them a bunch recently and couldn't figure out if I missed the last sign that said "Buy x product and your life will be better." Now I understand. Can't believe you stopped the whole way along there. People don't take too kindly to any slowdown on that road!
