Sheila Moran ~Broker Bits~: I set my sights on a goal and I reached it. One down, more to come.

I set my sights on a goal and I reached it. One down, more to come.

Matt Stigliano transferred over to our office in July of 2009.  He is a shining example (my words, never his) of what a little "leap of faith", planning, goal setting and surrounding yourself with an awesome team will do for your business!

Awesome job, Matt!

Your on your way up!!

Setting goals and reaching them.

I wasn't much of a goal setter when I started in my real estate career.  I didn't even have them written down.  Thanks to encouragement from people like Missy Caulk, I did wind up setting goals for myself for the year.  Of course, when I switched brokers, I feared I might not accomplish some of them.  I figured it would take some time to get situated in my new office and discover exactly what it was that I felt I had been missing at my last office.  I needed time to settle in and sometimes, that takes away from productivity.

Instead, I found myself settled in immediately and my productivity went through the roof.  Not just with clients and numbers, but with thoughts, ideas, blogs, and other accomplishments (such as being selected to serve on a NAR Committee in 2010).  Of course, you've all heard me rave about my office and broker by now, so I'll keep that to a minimum.

It happened this month, but took less time than I had planned for.

While doing some paperwork this morning, it dawned on me that I had hit the $1,000,000 mark.  I had sold over one million dollars of real estate.  Now before you all dismiss that and say, "but Matt, that's not a lot," let me explain why this was a big goal for me.  When I moved to RE/MAX Access from my previous office, I was a bit frustrated with where I was at in my real estate career.  I knew I had the skill, I just wasn't performing the way I wanted to.  So when I came to RE/MAX Access, my goal was to reach one million in sales by year's end.

I was able to cross that magic number from July 1st to October 7th.  I still have two and a half months to push that goal further.

Of course, one million in sales will not keep most real estate agents alive for a year (it sounds like a lot, but by the time you're finished with commission splits, taxes, expenses, etc. - you get the picture).  Nonetheless, I was able to reach a personal goal and have time to pass it before the deadline of the year's end.

Thanks to everyone at RE/MAX Access for helping me do it.

P.S.  Please note, this post is not about bragging rights as I don't really feel that this is all that much to brag about.  What it is designed to do is to show what a little goal setting can do for oneself, especially if you complete the goal and still have time to move higher.  I also hope it might encourage a few agents who get stuck in the "I can't do it" mode - I've been there before and know it's a lie.

Isn't it the best when we reach our goals before the date we set for ourselves? Now you have a few more months to maybe make it to $1.5mil! Fantastic job! Keep up the good work!

I already commented.  Oddly enough, I mentioned you and your great idea that I actually get a plan, lol!  Seems like I keep seeing that over and over and over....wonder what it means?

Perhaps that I get a plan :o)?!  Have a great one!

Well congrats!  Now tell me how does that work down there?  Is that  1,000,000 in commission, or $1,000,000 worth of home sales?  We measure our stats by what we gross in commissions?

Sheila, You sure do a great job of promoting and helping people. We could use more people building agents such as you around. I will go over to Matts post as well and drop a line.

Sheila set me on the right path and gave me the support to pull it off.  She has an open door (even though I have to learn to make noise when standing at it waiting for her to finish - I'm going to give her a heart attack one of these days) at all times.  She's always got in-depth advice - not just what I could do, but why I should.  She encourages my tech side and loves to learn more.

And it doesn't stop there.  The whole team at the office is like that.  Even the agents who are more on the mobile side.  When they're in the office they check in and encourage me and since they have years more experience than I do, they are more than willing to talk about what they have seen and done.

Liz - I'd love to say it's $1,000,000 in commission, but that's not the case.  It's $1,000,000 in sold homes.  Which is why I felt the need to say (on my blog) that it was not any great accomplishment in terms of numbers.  Many agents brag about how they are million dollar producers, but the fact is, that million dollars doesn't go very far when it's boiled down to commissions.

Thanks everyone - really you should be congratulating Sheila - for having the guts to take a chance on an agent that knew he had what it took, but had yet to show it on a large scale.  She made me think about what I wanted out of this career and after quite a bit of thinking about it, she made me realize that I was in control of how far I got and all I needed to do was to "draw the line in the sand" and "take a leap of faith."

Sheila,

Great job on reaching your goal, and a $1,000,000 in a month is not a small amount and it is your goal.  Keep up the good work.

Some specialists claim that personal loans help people to live the way they want, just because they are able to feel free to buy necessary things. Furthermore, different banks give car loan for young and old people.
