In all of my years of selling real estate my biggest challenges weren't:
- finding buyer or sellers (well, maybe sometimes)
- getting super hard deals to closing in record time (just one more miracle, please)
- handling overstressed and emotional people to stick with the facts
It seemed to be MY TIME.
For years I ran around with no schedule nor boundaries.
I truly know that some observed me as a red-headed, crazed, focus challenged (it's not easy when you have to show one last house, grocery shop, pick up the kids, get homework done and have dinner at a decent hour) woman trying to be everything to everyone ALL AT ONCE!
The bigger that I spun my web the least efficient I was. It was very apparent.
Until the day that I joined Success Partners which is a RE/MAX group here in Texas. I thought attending these meetings was going to teach me HOW to do more business. Was I ever wrong. What I learned was how I was the one deterring my ultimate success (blessings here, not number of sales) by not being the keeper of my TIME.
Through trial and error and learning that I can't be at the boys' basketball game and showing a house at the same time. (yes, I tried) I mastered (okay, a work in progress) THE ART OF MY TIME.
I know now that time for myself, my husband and my children is important to my happiness (as well as theirs) and ultimately will lead me to success. Success being equated as relaxing time, vacations (yes, where the mobile doesn't ring) building relationships and quality time. I found out that the more relaxed and replenished I was I was making more sales and enjoying myself along the way!
It sounds so simple yet so hard to implement. The more that I worked on it, the easier it came. What do they say? Practice makes perfect.
I ask my fellow REALTORS what is your best time saving tip? or what have you implemented into your life that let's you take a well deserved day off?
After all, every day it's still a work in progress. Right?

Great post - I have always said "Take time or it will take you" -- Thanks for sharing!
Sheila,
When I was in management I was accountable to a coach on a weekly basis. We used various tools to clearly define goal and break down the actions needed to accomplish these goals. First get your year's goals together. These should be in all fields of your life, not just business. Then determine what you need to do on a monthly basis, then weekly, then daily. The most important part of the equation is to block your time. If you block time for daily lead generation for instance and don't let anything interfere with that time you will greatly increase your efficiency. Most importantly and probably the most difficult is to block personal time and keep to it. It's so easy to rationalize taking that call or scheduling that listing appointment in your family time because it's "free" time. When you come to the realization that it's not you truly are free and much more efficient. Time blocking and sticking to it makes you much more efficient.
Kristin- thanks for always being "you"
Norma-short and sweet. I'll remember that
Larry-Yes, the Success Partners group is part of my coaching. Now I get it! You are absolutely correct! I have learned to be "stingy" with my personal time now. Thanks for the early morning reminder!
