Sheila Moran ~Broker Bits~: My blinders are on...careful of what you say!

My blinders are on...careful of what you say!

Seems that for months now I have been careful to avoid the Agents, Sellers, Buyers, general population with their "economic" breakdown (yes, similar to a nervous breakdown and the hysteria that goes along with it).

Now, I'm not saying to IGNORE all of the signals.  Nor to blatantly stick your head in the sand.  But, one thing is for sure:  You are what you listen to and participate in.

I've been reading story after story about Agents crying over the market (and I'm not saying that all markets are great).  But, I would bet money that the Agents that have their BLINDERS on and are focused on what they need to do, how they are going to accomplish it and what their desired outcome from it will be, have got to be ahead in these "mind games".

Need a minute to re-focus?  Easiest way to do that it to break out that goal sheet that you did at the beginning of the year.  Oh, you didn't do one?  Better late than never so, sit down and make a plan for the last 4th quarter of this year.  Lock yourself where you won't be distracted (for me that's my GIANT walk in closet) turn on some soothing music and rethink, re plan and rejuvenate your mind and soul.  When your ready with your ACTION plan in hand walk out and face the world again.

Sometimes during the day feel someone trying to steal your peace?....well, your already focused.  You can quickly put a stop to it!

See someone walking your way with TOXIC words?  Tell them politely, "sorry, wearing my blinders today (and maybe ear plugs, too!) I simply can't afford to participate in this conversation".  They will look at you funny and might be a little mad that you won't commiserate in their miserly, but believe me they will find someone else that WILL.

Remember, your time is what you make of it.

I am with you.  Kill your television too.  I don't understand how people can watch the news 24/7 with all the bitchin and gloom and doom.  If that is your reality, then that is what you will have.  I would rather be positive and live in my own world, it ain't so bad.

I have been making an effort to stay positive but it is getting to me.  Thanks for the nudge.

I hear you.  I haven't been logging on to Ameritrade to see my stocks for this very reason.  I would rather NOT see how much $ I have lost, it will depress me too much.  Instead, I will rely on my imagination and positive attutude to realize that these stocks will be back up in no time.

You said it sister!  Besides, you only lose money in the market if you sell it right?  I will just hold onto what I have and keep on keepin' on.  What else can you do really?

Good post. While it's vital to stay informed, sometimes the news can become an obsession, which blocks other activities.

I manage to stay positive most of the time, but it is not easy.  Perhaps, if I had supportive people around me, it would not be as difficult.

I think some of us need to find some new friends!  Or co-workers?  Keep debbie downer away!

I agree!  Can't wait to the election to be over!  Too much press on it and too much on the talk shows.  I told someone last week, who had an election moment, sorry, this just isn't in my profile.  He said, what?  I told him that on my profile I just don't mesh with things that take away my production abiliites.  He was totally perplexed.  At least, he started to think about something else!

It's a Good Life!

Shelia,

This is some very timely information and we need to be doing this more and more at this time of the year.  Because what we do now will set us up for a good start in the new year.

Sheila - love the positive message here - it really is a choice to get pulled into the negativity all around us or to choose not to get involved and I like the approach that you tell the person you are just not going to get involved in that conversation. There's nothing wrong with that!  I also wanted to thank you for subscribing to my blog and hope to continue to get to know you more. ~ Anne Marie

Sheila,

Great post!  Good meeting you at the REMAX top 500 retreat in Galveston.  What really put a perspective on  things for me was being able to see the destruction that so many people have gone through there as a result of the hurricanes.  Our markets are good because we actually have inventory.  Negativity gets you no where except maybe a place you do not want to be.

Keep up the good work!

This market is fertile ground for any intelligent, intrepid agent.  The whiners have always existed and they always will...
