Last Wednesday some office mates and I drove to Houston to hear Dave Liniger speak. He came to Texas to be upclose and reach out to all RE/MAX Agents to inform us of what is coming for 2010!

It was great to hear him speak. He's such a down to earth kind of guy and just says things like they are. I like that about him. He had done his research informing a room full of RE/MAX of Texas Agent what is to come for 2010, pricing, the economic outlook and where and who are the Buyers of 2010. It was such a treat.

Houston, TX - January 08, 2010 - Over 1000 Realtors from across Texas turned out in Houston and Dallas this week to hear RE/MAX International Co-Founder Dave Liniger speak on the economy and the future of America's housing market. Giving a nearly two and a half hour presentation, the real estate maverick expounded on the events that lead to the current housing crisis and subsequent recession. Liniger also spoke on what RE/MAX, the world's largest and most well-known real estate franchise has been doing in Washington D.C. to stem the tide of foreclosures.

"Dave is an extremely engaging figure whose motivations go beyond business," says Richard Filip, CEO of RE/MAX of Texas, the company which sponsored the presentation. "In a time of historically high foreclosure rates, our main concern as RE/MAX agents is not the commission. It is making sure people can stay in their homes, and preserve both their credit and their dignity."

In his presentation, Liniger advocated for greater knowledge of the short sale process, by which most homeowners avoid foreclosure and the resulting damage to their credit. "We envisioned a program in which lenders, investors and second-lien holders are given greater incentive to accept Short Sales, streamline the process and reduce delays that lead to frustrating dead ends," says Liniger. "Loan modification remains the top avenue for underwater borrowers, but when the numbers just don't work, a Short Sale is the next-best option for everyone involved. People need to know that."

Congress has apparently been listening to Liniger, who informed his audience that his recommendations for public policy toward Short Sales impressed both Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Treasury Secretary Shaun Donavan. The congressionally-approved streamlined short sale plan goes into effect this April and will standardize the complicated process. Some of its measures include protection of homeowners by removing first liens and Realtors by forbidding commission reductions at closing.

Though seasoned with good news for the real estate industry, Liniger's presentation cautioned attendees about an impending second wave of foreclosures more massive than the sub prime variety America is now familiar with. "We are only a third of the way through the foreclosure crisis," Liniger says. "The fundamental changes the market has seen all point toward one irrefutable fact. Experienced, committed, full-time agents are better positioned today than ever before to dominate the market, especially in Texas."

So much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Thankful on Thanksgiving!

I have spent the last 3 weeks in bed recovering. Recovering from surgery that I shared with you a couple of months ago.

During this time I have had a great deal of time to reflect, think, relax, and re-coop.

These are the things that I have been recently thankful for, in no particular order.

My husband who helped me in and out of bed.

My Mom who helped me get in the shower.

My sister who administered meds (Nurse K) and cooked me lunch and dinner.

My kids who understood that I couldn't be chasing them around the house.

My Dad who cooked every night and had to sleep on the couch.

My office staff who remained calm when I asked for the nineteenth time "was it taken care of"

My sister who played all kinds of different roles in and out of the office.

On a bigger note, here are the things that I'm thankful for on any particular day, again no order.

My life, even with the trying times that have taught me so much.

My family.

My friends.

The great people that I am privileged to work with day in and day out.

My sisters.

The work that I'm able to do.

The people that inspire me and the people that remind me to be humble.

The great Country that we live in.

The love of some great people.

My health and those that I love.

I'm sure that I could go on and on with these little lists. However, this is what comes first in my mind and I just wanted to share.

Knowing YOU and YOUR style ~ so you can KNOW others

I just couldn't resist. Jimmy Stewart wrote this great post yesterday about why his Active Rain blog is so important to him. He mentions that he took a personality test. His version was a Behavior Styles test. He also mentions how his personality will help him help people with what he possesses.

Many of the comments mentioned the DISC personality test, which we use heavily in our office. I noticed that some people were interested about the DISC test so I thought I would share with you a website where you can take a quick and easy test (as well as your office mates, employees and team members) to see where everyone falls into place. This is an online version and costs only $16.00. Once you have the results and you know "what" your style is you are able to apply it in different ways. You can take an additional "team assessment" to place the people on your team in the proper strengths positions or take a career assessment. There are many things that can be achieved with better understanding from these tests.

Once you have your results it will tell you exactly which style you are: D I S or C What the strengths are of these different types, how others perceive you, how you perceive yourself and what could be personal growth areas for your type.

My top 2 profiles are D & I (I'll let you figure out what they mean), but my highest strength is a Persuader. I have included the "outline" of such.

Persuader

An extremely outgoing and social person/ sheila tends to make friends easily and likes to have

fun with others. She wants to make commitments even if she may be unable to keep them;

but that is because of her desire to please, not because of any intent to deceive, sheila tends

to be very spontaneous, easily becoming bored with routine tasks.

sheila is motivated by her ability to lead groups and influence others around her. She is

someone who takes the responsibility of leadership seriously when it is given to her, and is
